Sleep, Eat & Exercise

The Sleep, Eat & Exercise course is an interactive, one-credit, online course designed by Jerri Wachter Kjolhaug.  It introduces students to the knowledge and skills they need to create a balanced lifestyle while in college, emphasizing basic concepts of sleep, nutrition, and physical activity. In addition to providing information, it provides students with practical strategies for getting adequate sleep, eating well, and being active. The course incorporates a variety of techniques to promote self-awareness, reflection, goal setting and action toward wellness.

From a student perspective, our Sleep, Eat & Exercise course reveals how inactivity, poor nutrition, and inadequate sleep are common problems among college students and are leading contributors to a variety of short- and long-term consequences.  This course shares how research indicates that, in addition to improving health, healthy habits can reduce stress and improve academic performance.

The course is 100% online.  All lessons and readings are accessed through the campus’s learning management system.  Lessons can be read and/or listened to via a computer, printed in text format, or downloaded in MP3 format.  Coursework requires an average of three hours per week over 15 weeks.

It was completely online, it was nice to be able to do it when I had time. The technology was fantastic and it was presented wonderfully.

The SMART goals we had to set were definitely beneficial and something I will continue to use.

I liked how even though it was a full online class, there were different types of medias to show the course content, including pictures, graphs, videos and voice recordings. Also, I enjoyed the instructional videos about how to make different foods, it was very helpful!

The course was very structured and easy to follow. Assignments were due on the same day each week making it easier to remember seeing as how it is an online course.
